With a few clicks of the mouse, two or more monochrome SEM images (from the various detectors present) can easily be combined as a single colour composite image, dramatically enhancing information content, interpretation, detail and aesthetics without losses.
SEMs typically provide images through both secondary electrons (SE), which predominantly show topographic contrast, and back scattered electrons (BSE) showing mainly atomic number contrast (with very little topographic contrast) areas of greater intensity typically have a higher atomic number.
On application of the Spectrum software, the result is a dramatically enhanced colour image. (The eye is able to discern thousands of colours compared with only approximately sixteen grey levels) The software may be used directly with any digital SEM images or using an additional ISA Bus Circuit Board (Mono Hardware) it can be used with any analogue SEM. (see Spectrum Mono Hardware). Spectrum is a joint development between CSIRO and Dindima Imaging. Applications - Publishing - Reports - Geology - Metallurgy - Biology - Biomedical - Entomology
